PirateFoto Event Photography is very familiar with the workings of the Largest Pirate Festival in the World, also known as Gasparilla. This Swashbuckling oriented festival and parade(s) has been held each year in the city of Tampa since 1904. The Gasparilla Parade is the 3rd largest parade in the United States behind the Rose Parade and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and with upwards of 500,000 parade going fans along the 7 mile route that stretches from Bayshore Blvd into Downtown Tampa, the action is a spectacle to behold.
These are just a few select images, shot by the “FotoPirate” Scott Pooler at the last couple of Gasparilla Day Parades of the enthusiastic crowds. People really participate in the spirit of Gasparilla and add to the hoopla that is the Gasparilla Parade, wearing costumes, creating signs and making targets for beads to be tossed at from the more than 100 floats in the Parade. Many photographers focus on getting shots of the brightly colored Parade floats of the Gasparilla Krewes as well as the dozens of other Bands and Units of the parade. At PirateFoto we think the spirit of Gasparilla also lives within the crowd of amazing fans and pirates that attend each year to cheer on the krewes, collect beads and enjoy the day.
Please enjoy these images, who knows, maybe you are in one of them?
